Responsibilities of GSES Trustees and Members of Board Committees
- Hold in trust, for the present as well as the future, the integrity of the School.
- Maintain the financial integrity and stability of the School for the present and for the long term, including but not limited to establishing policies on endowment funds and spending; authorizing an annual audit and periodic full audits; developing a long-range strategic plan; monitoring investment decisions; approving the School's liability insurance programs; and authorizing any indebtedness.
- Develop the strategic policies of the School.
- Employ, annually review, retain or terminate, as well as maintain a succession plan for the Head of School, as well as to periodically review the basic language and terms of the contract for the members of the administrative staff.
- Ensure that a robust succession and development management plan is maintained for the school’s administration.
- Provide the Head of School with advice, direction, expertise, and support.
- Charge the Head of School with responsibility for the implementation of the Board’s policies.
- Charge the Head of School with authority for the day-to-day operation of the School.
- Conduct an annual Board self-evaluation.
The Vestry has entrusted to the Board the guardianship of the School’s Episcopal Identity as set forth in the Episcopal Identity Statement and the Mission. The Board of Trustees accepts and acknowledges that it has been so entrusted with this guardianship. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to:
- Ensure that the Episcopal Identity is fully implemented and maintained.
- Ensure that the Mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves.
- Monitor the success of the School in fulfilling its Mission.
