Creating a Learning Community: An Educators' Deep Dive

How can we create healthy learning communities where everyone feels they belong and, at the same time, celebrate the things that make us all unique? This team will share their research and practices as they explore the topic of belonging and how it is critical for student success.

The Monarch Experience is pleased to bring George Couros, Sheri Vasinda, and Project Wayfinder together in our second annual Educators’ Deep Dive to explore the topic of Belonging in our session, “Creating a Learning Community.” How can we create healthy learning communities where everyone feels they belong and, at the same time, celebrate the things that make us all unique? This team will share their research and practices as they explore the topic of belonging and how it is critical for student success.  Sometimes it is hard to remember all we have in common as human beings in an increasingly divided world. Working together toward a common goal makes us better, and the sense of belonging is critical for that success.

Students who have purpose in their lives are happier, healthier, more engaged, and less stressed out than their peers without a sense of purpose. The Wayfinder Toolkit is our contribution towards reimagining an adolescent education that supports students to build lives of purpose. Within it are tools for our next generation to develop skills and wisdom to meaningfully contribute to our world. Drawing upon purpose development research, brain science, interviews with "purpose exemplars," and practices from native wayfinding traditions, our yearlong meaning-making journey unleashes purpose in students and enriches the lives of educators.
