Spring 2024 Classes
Mondays
Ballet with Preston Hollow Dance
Dancers will learn popular steps in ballet which includes ballet movement, body isolations, and finding rhythm. Followed by jazz technique which emphasizes fancy footwork, big leaps, and turns! We also show videos that demonstrate popular dance moves and the kids learn a choreographed routine by the end of the semester. Classes will be taught by Preston Hollow Dance Studio. Students will perform in a recital at the end of the year. More information will go out closer to the date.

Fun Farmers with Ms. Carter
Introduce your young ones to the magical world of gardening with our engaging and educational "Fun Farmers" kids gardening class with kindergarten teacher, Kristin Carter. This hands-on experience is designed to spark their curiosity, nurture their green thumbs, and foster a deep appreciation for nature science. Kids will roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty as they plant seeds, water plants, and tend to their own garden patches. This hands-on approach instills a sense of responsibility and a love for growing things.
LEGO: Best Zoo In the World with Rocket Science for Kids
Join master builder, Michael Calahan, to learn about different animals in our Zoo. Students will develop safe and friendly environments and habitats to help improve how each animal spaces. The goal is to discover the needs, safety, and work that is needed to make our Zoo the best in the world!
Minecraft Architect with 8Bit Education
In this creative and design-focused session, students start by sketching their architectural ideas on paper. These designs are then brought to life in the Minecraft universe, both individually and through group projects. However, there's a twist – malevolent mobs will periodically descend to wreak havoc on these marvelous creations. Students must defend their designs, make repairs, and fortify their structures with defenses, turning each Minecraft Monday into an exciting test of design and strategic survival builds.
Photography Skills with Vineyard App Camps
Have you ever wanted to be a Photographer? Well, this is your chance! In this afterschool class, we’ll learn the basics of photography in all of its forms. We’ll learn about Composition, Lighting and other core strategies that allow professionals to take incredible photos. We’ll also get to take pictures of campus, go on nature tours, and even create beautiful creations for local businesses!
Young Philanthropists with Spark Business Academy
Students internalize the benefits of doing well and doing good, reviewing a number of charities and discussing the merits of giving back. Students collaborate in small teams to select a charity or issue they feel passionate about and come up with practical ways they can support that cause (including raising awareness, volunteering and fundraising), then create their own mock foundation!

Chess (1st-6th grades) with The Knight School
This revolutionary, party-based approach to chess has had amazing success because our unique and unprecedented educational philosophy, "the chess party," is the perfect way to transform a complete beginner into a devastating chess machine. We simply invite every chess beginner in your school to join our school chess team and we use only super-fun teaching methods such as super-fast chess clock-slapping chess games, zany videos, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, chess puzzlers for candy, driving music, hilarious tactics-lesson videos, and Mardi Gras bead chess tournaments each day we practice. In this kid-centered classroom environment, we teach our kids every cool trick, strategy, opening, and tactic in Chessdom and our kids soon learn to love and master chess and to masterfully control their classrooms, sports fields, and home lives as well!
GameTopia! with Play With a Purpose
Interested in drawing, art, or design? In this class, you’ll learn how to use your doodling skills for real, by doing design projects for local nonprofits or small businesses. You will learn how to make professional posters and art that people want to pay for, and you’ll ultimately design posters and ads for real organizations with good causes. Our students' work has been used in ads and online Instagram posts by the Special Olympics, Martha's Kitchen, and local shelters.
Little Geniuses Chess with The Knight School
This chess class specifically and developmentally targets our preschoolers with puppet shows, fast chess clocks, playing chess for Mardi Gras beads, collecting 25 colorful silicone wristbands, zany movies, hilarious songs, fun chess tourneys, and a great, fun spirit that makes kids never leave chess and gain problem-solving ability and academic confidence each week.
Middle School Art Club with Ms. Foster
The purpose of ART CLUB is to provide students who have an interest in art an opportunity to explore art making outside of the regular school day. Students will participate in higher level art processes by using advanced materials with Middle School teacher, Kate Foster. Drawing skills are expanded. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks are created through ceramics, weaving and painting. Bring your creative selves and let’s ART CLUB!
Middle School Choir with Mrs. Gleason
Do you enjoy singing? Want to learn new songs? Enjoy performing in an ensemble? Join the Middle School Choir with music teacher, Kristi Gleason! Middle School Choir is open to 5th-8th graders and will focus on making music together with the best choral sound possible. Students will learn pieces in unison and 2-part harmony, develop sight-reading skills, and have fun working as an ensemble.
Rehearsals will be after school in the Middle School Music Room. We will have a choir performance for families and friends, date and time to be determined. More information will be sent out as we get closer.
Mixing Masters with DIMATexas
This exciting class is where they'll discover the art of mixing, remixing, and crafting infectious beats that will have everyone dancing. Under the guidance of our expert instructors your child will create mesmerizing rhythms and find their unique groove. "Mixing Masters" is more than just music; it's about building confidence, nurturing creativity, and giving your child the spotlight they deserve. Join us for dance parties, friendly DJ battles, and exhilarating performances. It's time for your child to shine!
School Newspaper & News Channel Club with Vineyard App Camps
Have you ever wanted to be a reporter? To keep people informed on the important happenings in your community? Well this is your chance! In this class, we’ll explore the ins and outs of both broadcast and print journalism. First, we’ll create a school newspaper, where we take on roles as editors and article writers to bring a high quality publication to our fellow students. Then, we’ll create a video log of short, journalistic videos explaining what’s going on at our school. Along the way, we’ll learn things like storyboarding, simple video editing, and interviewing!
Yoga Class with Yogees Yoga 4 Kids
Join Yogees Yoga 4 Kids teachers for a unique yoga journey for children through books, music, imagination, and fun! We encourage strong mental and physical health and abide by the philosophy that in yoga "everyone is a winner."

Arts, Crafts, and Beyond with KiD ART
KiD ART is excited to be part of the weekly Encore classes at GSES. We are offering our Classic Kid Art multimedia class, where students learn about famous artists (past and present), while working with drawing, painting, collage, and ceramics. All projects are designed to playfully engage little hands and minds while developing early childhood skills. Students will go home with mini multimedia masterpieces!
Cooking with Cook Learn Grow
This hands-on experience is a cooking and baking class to help students learn life skills, self confidence, independence, and creativity. Each session brings new hands-on lessons and recipes. Classes can accommodate nut allergies.

Students will perform in a recital in the Spring. More information will go out closer to the date.

Mindstorm Robotics with LEGOs with Rocket Science for Kids
Students will discover how to combine LEGO Technic, LEGO Mindstorm Robots, and computer coding to create autonomous creation to help with specific tasks with master builder, Michael Calahan. Students will use different interactive robot sensors to help their robot complete several different challenges. Challenges will include hitting and moving different items which include pushing and pulling efforts for opening and lifting parts of creations and many other technics.
Movie Making & Film Club with Mr. McKee
Lights, camera, action! Welcome to the exciting world of Movie Making & Film Club for Kids with Peter McKee from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. This creative and fun-filled course is designed to ignite your child's passion for storytelling and cinematic expression. Through hands-on activities and collaborative projects, young filmmakers will explore the art and science of making movies. Students will get to learn about A/V technology first hand in the church's Audio/Visual Lab. Students will get to learn to operate the lights, cameras, and audio systems in real time. Join us in this cinematic adventure and let your child's imagination shine on the silver screen!
My First Lemonade Stand with Spark Business Academy
Learn how to make sweet and tangy lemonade and make money by selling it! Experiment with recipes, design flyers, learn how to count money, make change and tally your profits. Then, in a showcase finale event, launch your lemonade stand and sell, sell, sell, and raise funds for a charity students select!

Welcome to an electrifying class that's all about celebrating the magic of music through singing and dynamic rhythmic movement. Karate with Chamberlain Studios
3-steps to a Great Kid is the character development program developed by Dr. Nick Chamberlain in conjunction with other top educators. The program is designed to fill a void in children's education that many feel is often left between school, traditional sports, and their home environment. This program is the backbone of all our children's martial arts classes. Karate uniform fee $35.00
Minecraft Realms with 8Bit Education
On Minecraft Realms Thursdays, we come together as a class to create a thriving society within the Minecraft world. Our collaborative efforts involve constructing various buildings, from cozy homes to real-world-inspired structures. Each student takes on a specific role: farmers supply essential food, miners gather valuable resources, and defenders safeguard our community from menacing mobs. Together, we strive to survive, develop, and eventually prepare for a thrilling journey to the Nether by the semester's end.

Music Lessons
Mrs. Gleason's Piano Studio
Mrs. Gleason is bringing the world of piano music to Good Shepherd. Her studio is designed to inspire and nurture the next generation of musicians. Private piano lessons offer students an opportunity to develop musical skills, express creativity, and have fun!
Students will receive 13 lessons through the semester. Lessons will start on Jan. 22 and end on May 3. There are no lessons on school holidays.
Students will perform in the Encore Music Lesson Recital at the end of the semester. More information will be sent out closer to the event.
Private Music Lessons with DIMATexas
Good Shepherd students are invited to register for Private Lessons through the Encore Program! Lessons times are offered after school hours and will be scheduled in order of registration. You will receive 13 lessons throughout the semester. Lessons will start on 1/22 and end on 5/3. There are no lessons on school holidays.
Students will perform in the Encore Music Lesson Recital at the end of the semester. More information will be sent out closer to the event. Instructors are contracted through DFW Institute for Musical Advancement (DIMA).
