A Good Start
Learning with confidence. Serving with compassion. Leading with courage. Good Shepherd Episcopal School lives out our mission every day — providing exceptional opportunities for intellectual and spiritual growth in a nurturing environment.
The best way to learn about Good Shepherd is to experience it in-person at any of our Prospective Parent visits, Open House events, or campus tours.
On any given day, you may find our Pre-K students working with fourth-graders to create lighted sculptures. You might happen upon kindergartners constructing ice castles. Or, perhaps you’ll notice the seventh grade students are nowhere to be found — because they’re at Smoky Mountain National Park for their annual Classroom of the Earth trip! No matter what’s going on, you’ll be greeted with smiles and welcomed as friends.
Should you choose to begin the admission process (and we sincerely hope you do), we’re here to assist you in any way.
We look forward to meeting you soon and sharing our joy and passion for Good Shepherd Episcopal School.
WE SEE YOU AT GOOD SHEPHERD
Good Shepherd inspires children to learn with confidence, serve with compassion, and lead with courage. Our mission is carried out by providing your children with experiential learning and leadership opportunities from prekindergarten through eighth grade. We know that rigorous academics don’t have to be taught in a mechanical and monotonous method and that children learn best through play, innovation, and experience. But don’t just take our word for it, explore and see for yourself!

Why Good Shepherd
Everything we do at Good Shepherd — from curriculum planning and athletics to Chapel services and Classroom of the Earth excursions — is designed to develop essential skills and character traits that will propel your child through high school and beyond. Learn more about what makes GSES unique.
Better By Design
Over 60-plus years, we’ve developed courses and experiences that do more than educate — they inspire lifelong learning. These programs have become hallmarks at GSES — designed to meet each student where they are and lead them far beyond the ordinary.
The Eighth Grade Advantage
Free from the pressure of a K-12 school environment, our Pre-K-Eighth Grade program allows our students the freedom to participate in unlimited activities and realize the things that matter most. Our Lower School students have the advantage of being a critical part of the life of our school, experiencing all of the resources, programs, and extras of a bigger school. As for our Middle School students, they are not “caught in the middle” and instead become leaders and role models, recognitions usually reserved for seniors in high school.
An Outdoor Education Program Second to None
Since 1992, the Classroom of the Earth (COE) program has been drawing children outside their comfort zones — where they find the confidence to learn, the compassion to serve, and the courage to lead. All GSES students, Pre-K through Eighth Grade, participate, building year-to-year skills and knowledge that culminates in a 9-day Colorado trip to begin their final year at Good Shepherd. Often imitated, never duplicated, COE is real world education, and nobody does it better than we do!
An Inclusive, Faith-Based Community
As an outreach of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, we provide all of our students a sense of the values and skills necessary to become accepting and positive influences on the world around them. Chapel is foundational to the GSES experience, where we learn to love others as ourselves.
Top-Tier High School Placements
With exceptional scholastic backgrounds, our eighth grade students matriculate to the top high schools in the area. They spend their last year at GSES creating resumes and learning to prepare for high school interviews and visits. Our students are pursued because they are well-prepared, self-assured, self-confident, and well-rounded.
¡Excepcional!
Our Spanish curriculum is creative, ambitious, and designed to go beyond merely learning to speak the language. Students dig deeper into cultural backgrounds, advanced sentence structure, and real world stories. Because students start Spanish in Pre-K, many of our graduates place out of at least one year of high school Spanish.
