Blessing of the Animals Returns Tomorrow!

We are so excited to once again host our Blessing of the Animals celebration this year TOMORROW, Friday, October 1, 2021. This celebration is also known as the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Should we need to cancel this event due to rain or rainy conditions, we will send you a text message tomorrow morning, prior to your arrival to campus.

What an exciting day for us to bring our pets to school for the clergy to bestow upon these special family members a treasured blessing. Whether you bring your actual pet, a photograph, or a special plush animal, we will all gather as a school community.

Date: Tomorrow, Friday, October 1st
Time: 8:05 a.m. All live animals must be either in a carrier or on a leash.
Places:  Early Childhood - the grassy knoll on the south side of the church, next to Nix
Lower School - north of the playground, east of the CCL
Middle School - on the track, closest to the Northaven parking lot

  • Please line up, single file, by grade, in your designated area and your children will come to you to find their pets.

  • If your child is uncomfortable with animals/noise, a designated area in the library has been reserved to wait until the ceremony is over.

  • There will be poop scoops and trash cans in each location, so please watch your pets carefully and clean up after them if they should have an accident.

  • As soon as your pet has been blessed, parents will take their animals home. Plush animals or photos may stay at school with your children for the day.

Please note: If you have children in more than one division, please meet your oldest child at that blessing site, and then go as a family to the site of your youngest child. Parents, please escort your older child to the CCL entrance before you leave the campus.

There will not be a rain date. However, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd will conduct its own Blessing of the Animals celebration on Sunday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m. on the south lawn.

We look forward to seeing you and your pets!
