We are blessed to be a part of such a generous community! We now have two opportunities for our families to help replenish two of our local food banks whose supplies are dangerously low.
Opportunity #1: Family Gateway, a Good Shepherd outreach partner, has contacted us to provide much-needed canned and boxed goods for the current shortage in its food pantry. Family Gateway provides stability and life-changing supportive services to children and families affected by homelessness. With area schools closed due to COVID-19, they are feeding a significantly higher number of people (125-140) at each meal.
We are organizing a canned/boxed food drive at Good Shepherd Episcopal School on Tuesday, April 28th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. Take a quick lunch break, get outside, and drop off a few cans! Please enter through the Midway entrance and follow the traditional early childhood/lower school carpool line. Drop off will take place in the Kincaid Pavilion parking lot.
All canned and boxed food is welcome, but the items most needed are:
- Green beans
- Mixed vegetables
- Baked beans
Please stay in your cars for the drop-off process. Volunteers will be available and appropriately distant, wearing masks and gloves, to safely take your donation from the trunk and/or back of your cars.
Financial donations are also welcome if you cannot drop off but still want to help. Please donate directly to DRR, and we will purchase canned and boxed goods, as well as other needs, with your generous donations.
Opportunity #2: In the true spirit of serving with compassion, our own GSES students, Greyson and Graham Townsend (5th & 2nd), Cade and Jay Landry (incoming Kindergarten & 1st), and friend Harrison Whitaker (St. Mark’s), are collecting canned goods for North Dallas Shared Ministries, another one of our Good Shepherd outreach partners. Although the NDSM is officially closed, they are still trying to supply over 300 local seniors with food baskets each week. Should your family wish to participate, please feel free to drop off your donations on or before May 8th at 6304 Pemberton Drive in Dallas. All non-perishable items are accepted, but no glass containers, please. Click to watch their student video HERE.
