It’s not uncommon to hear someone say, “Isn’t it cool that Easter and Passover overlap this year!”
You may be surprised to learn that, historically, it overlapped since its inception. The Jewish feast of the Passover began over 3,400 years ago. What we now call Easter was originally celebrated by Christians on Passover. The Last Supper was the Passover Seder. The early Church followers of Jesus commemorated the life, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus on the same day as Passover (Pascha). Around the second century, Christians began celebrating Easter on the Sunday following Passover.
There is a very deep connection between Easter and Passover. Jesus was called in scripture the Passover Lamb. As you and your family celebrate this season as children of God, may you feel blessed to share your faith with those you love. May we all share in God’s love, no matter what feast is on your table.
Happy Easter! Happy Passover!
