Reinstating Morning Carpool Temperature Checks

On October 29, the school made the decision to discontinue morning temperature checks but continue with Ascend, our symptom screening tool. We came to this decision after many conversations and considerations, including the inaccuracy of the thermometers in cold weather, the changing guidance from the CDC, TEA, and the county, and the excellent work of our community to keep students home when they exhibit any symptoms, among other reasons. We also promised we would continue to review all of our protocols within the context of our changing landscape.

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Dallas County and at the school, we have decided to reinstate temperature checks during morning carpool beginning Monday, November 16th. In order to get an accurate temperature reading, we will take your child’s temperature when he or she has entered one of the  buildings (Kincaid, Middle School, Kelsoe Cottage, or Nix). If your child has a high temperature, he or she will be asked to sit and wait away from other students for a few minutes to have a recheck. If the temperature is still high, you will be asked to pick up your child. You should also continue to complete the Ascend questionnaire each day for your children, as our morning carpool monitors will need to see your green checkmark!

Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep everyone on our campus healthy. We will continue to review our protocols regularly and will communicate any changes as they occur.
