Philosophy
Good Shepherd believes extracurricular athletics are an integral part of the middle school experience. Students are encouraged to participate in athletics during three sport seasons (fall, winter, spring). The athletic department offers a wide variety of teams that students can choose to join. Some sports require a formal tryout for membership (soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball & baseball), while other sports accept all participants (football, cross country, golf, track & field). All 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular athletics throughout the year. Good Shepherd requires all coaches to conduct regular practices throughout each season. Coaches teach skill fundamentals, team strategies, and sportsmanship. Good Shepherd believes participation by all players is important to a successful athletic program. Middle school athletic success is not determined by wins and losses, but rather by the effort and desire the athletes show on the court and field.
